Scent Tracking Dog Offers Hope For Missing Persons
Irving, Texas - May 24, 2006 -- Almost daily on the news throughout this country we
hear of missing people, mostly women & children or we watch in horror as destruction
in the form of some natural or man-made disaster is played before us. You can bet
there is a scent tracking dog on the job searching high & low for the victim(s).
Whether the tragic situation is natural or man-made hardly matters to this heroic
dog. He "works" solely for the praise of his handler.
The historic & tragic events of 911 brought into the limelight the need & usefulness
of scent tracking dogs and their handlers. Search and Rescue dogs from all over the
country were brought into New York City to search through the rubble and ruins.
These dogs worked tirelessly along side the police, fire department, and many other
organizations like the Red Cross.
"It is somewhat regrettable that every few months a tragedy or high profile missing
persons case, such as Laci Peterson or Lori Hacking, brings this issue to the
forefront of the average American consciousness," states Janis Cazares, "but the
reality is that everyday a well trained, qualified scent tracking dog can be the
last hope for hundreds of missing or trapped people. Just recently Sharon Rocha
released her personal story on the tragic murder of her daughter. Not only has she
told her story, but she has gone a step further and generously donated the proceeds
to fund volunteer organizations for continued education and scent tracking dog
training. Simply put, there is a need."
The fact is that in many areas of law enforcement and privately run volunteer
organizations there is a call for further training and funds for qualified search
and rescue dogs, as well as for handlers. As long as Mother Nature or, as in the
above mentioned tragedies, Man continues to put the lives of innocent victims in
tragic & life-threatening situations that call will continue to grow louder.
